The Lake Clinic Cambodia
Dr. Michael Faktor D.M.D has a huge heart when it comes to donating his time and talents to others in need. He has made trips to provide free dentistry in places like Cambodia and Indonesia. In October of 2009, Dr. Faktor went to Cambodia with his assistant and a local high school student. While in Cambodia, the three of them traveled in a boat along the Mekong River to floating villages, providing a wide array of care from extractions to fluoride treatments for children. In 2010, Dr. Faktor is hoping to make it to Africa to do more of the same!

Above: Dr. Faktor examines a little boy with baby bottle syndrome. This is a condition caused by the mother leaving the infant with a bottle in the crib, which can result in tooth decay. Primary or baby teeth are very susceptible to sugars in bottled or breast milk. Dr. Faktor had to extract all six front baby teeth.

Above and left: Dr. Faktor and his assistant, Heather, saw a lot of patients who had never had dental care before. Unfortunately, this lack of available care led to quite a few extractions.

Left: Dr. Faktor and his crew, along with a medical team, sailed about the Mekong River. They slept under mosquito nets at night and were fed exotic food by the boat crew.
It was an experience of a lifetime!
